When you have to get your content into a digital format and fast, it can be difficult to know where to start! I have a few best practices for getting up and running as quickly as possible.
1. Choose an LMS or any online organizational tool. Students should know where to go and how to turn in each assignment, and it shouldn't change much over time. This process should be a routine. 2. Pick a few programs or tools to use and master them. Don't try to overload yourself or your students with trying to learn everything up front. New ideas and tools can be used in time. 3. Know your goal or objective for each lesson and keep a laser like focus on it as you plan. This will force you to choose your lesson activities with purpose. 4. Try to add as much interactivity as possible. Clicking, dragging, creating, discussing, playing - you really need to grab their attention as much as possible. 5. Keep the entire lesson to a bare minimum. You can build it out later as you learn what works and what doesn't. If you try to build a beautiful, perfect lesson the first time around, you won't be able to keep up with everything you actually need to do. I hope those 5 tips help you get started with a virtual classroom!
